Open Source Solutions
We believe in leveraging and contributing to open source software to help government agencies achieve maximum value returns for their taxpayers. Open source software offers an alternative to proprietary software that provides the flexibility of freely viewing, copying, modifying and distributing the software.
At JD Software we strongly believe that our customers are better served when they are not locked into a vendor and are free to modify and enhance their software solutions to better meet their specific needs.
Open source software code is publicly available and the licenses allow any individual or group to modify the code and provide support for the software. This frees government agencies from being locked into a specific vendor, promoting a competitive market for software development and maintenance. JD Software currently provides DPH/BSAS with support and maintenance for the BSAS Licensing Application. ELicensing was successfully rolled out in 2012, replacing an antiquated paper application process for substance abuse treatment programs and counselors with a state of the art electronic licensing application. The development team at JD Software worked tirelessly in collaboration with BSAS to ensure the BSAS business process was accurately captured in the software design. The team is always accessible to the business should a question or issue come up. We brought JD Software in to help with preparation and planning for a major migration project we were performing at the Commonwealth of Mass. Their participation was highly recommended by several employees on the project at the time. This is due to their history at the Executive Office of Health and Human Services providing solid technical consultation and solutions, and in particular their experience with SQL server implementations. They planned our strategy for an unusual implementation that required converting a critical DB server from a cluster to single instance of SQL Server. They also provided onsite support during the conversion. The conversion went very smoothly and our employees felt very comfortable performing such a major operation on a critical database mainly because of their trust in the knowledge and experience of the JD Software consultant The experience was so favorable that the team insisted on keeping the JD Software consultant on contract during the migration phase of this server and related web/application servers.
During the migration several issues were found, none of which were related to the DB conversion. The consultant used his considerable technical knowledge in other areas to help our team resolve these issues even though they were out of his scope. This speaks to the knowledge, experience, and dedication that the JD Software consultation provides; ensuring their client successfully meets their goals even if it requires that they pitch in outside their normal statement of work. The migration turned out to be a complete success and we were able to build upon the knowledge and confidence gained to complete many more critical migrations.
